Y is a vowel when it forms the vowel sound of the syllable (e.g., “Lynn,” “Kyle”), otherwise a consonant (“yell”). This page treats Y as a vowel if it is not adjacent to another vowel and sits at syllable end or between consonants; you can toggle it manually by adding/removing the letter under Vowels in the advanced box (below).
